New to Vista
i've been planning from over two monthes to install Vista on my Laptop which is
-1.8 GH 1MB L2 cache Celeron processor
-1.5 GB Ram
-120 GB HD
-Intel Graphics Media Accelerator up to 224 MB (i dont know why this particular number :) )
i took all this time planning because i hate to install windows when my current one is working fine :)
and now even my windows was still working fine but i wanted to get used to it before the faculty year starts.
it have been about 10 hours since i installed it it seems nice.
working smoothly till now
i cant feal that the side bar is making a load on the system
the thing that iritated me in the side bar in the slideshow Gadget i cant remove a pictures source folder i've added
i found a clipboard manager Gadget which i need extensively "as i am a developer" :P
the animations are nice my first impression was that it is nice but..... :D
1-after working for a couple of hours i found the memory usage raise from 4x % to 7x % or 8x % which i didn't like but somehow i'm prepared for things like that from people's talking about vista
2-what i was not prepared to is that it consumes my disc space in a strange way :|
i've installed it on a 20 GB drive
i've heared that it may take 10 GB
and when i was installing it, It said it will take 6 GB -BTW i was happy to see that-
at first it took 9 GB after i installed some small essential programs (pdf reader, CD emulator ... etc )
then after those couple of hours i found 4 GB remaining on C:/ :O
i googled that and found that Vista has alot of means to use space :D as :
-Volume Shadow Copy: This is biggest reason for "missing" space in Vista!
-Essential System Files
-Copies of Installation Media
i even didn't install the Visual Studio yet.
ok...install VS in another drive :(
but thats one day :D
i hate to see the "Low Disk Space" message
ok lets continue!
3-My user account is of type Admin
i installed Deamon tools lite as CD emulator and when i first tried to open it it displayed a message "please use local administrator account"
the best solution always is "www.google.com" :D
and the solution for this problem was to Right click on the shortcut and choose "run as Adminstrator"
:@ I AM AN ADMINSTRATOR !!!!!!!!!!!!!
but it worked -nice solution for a stupid problem :D-
4-i didnot know how to run the IIS on the machine
of Course Google :d
Control Panel -> Programs -> Turn Windows features on or off
5-i found something called the Resource Monitor
where i saw something called Hard Faults which is bouncing up to 148 fault/sec
"I have 1.5 GB RAM and Vista uses 79 % of it and it still swaps Memory to disk" :D
Hard Fault == Page Fault, but MS must have it's own names :D
Till now thats it -execluding the confirmation security messages(s)(s)s :D -
i dont know if i'm going to get used to that or just go back to my XP SP2 which used 30 % of memory and 60 % at most
i think i'd give it some time....
